Why not come and view the many species of birds recently recorded in a BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) Survey in our Tetrad : TL85Z
2014: breeding Little Owls and Spotted Flycatchers along with frequent sightings of Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers and occasional sightings of a tawny owl and barn owl. 2014 has also brought goldfinches and long tailed tits to our bird feeders every day and renewed sightings of the barn owl. In the Summer of 2014 a barn owl was roosting in the owl box on one of our trees and tawny owl sightings continue. Green woodpeckers are on the lawn every day! 2015 Spring - a pair of barn owls using the barn owl box. Red kite and buzzards regularly seen in the area.
In total fifty different species were recorded in the tetrad (2km by 2km square). There are plenty of common garden birds too, at all times of the year: wrens and skylarks, robins and finches to name but a few. In the winter large flocks of rooks can be seen heading home each evening to Raw Hall Wood just to the south of The Old Dairy.
Regularly updated lists of birds spotted by visitors in the woods are listed in the new visitor centre.
